Keeping a small notebook
A place for unfinished thoughts, borrowed sentences and the details that disappear before evening.
A notebook works best when it is easy to carry and unimportant enough to use. Beautiful blank pages can make ordinary thoughts feel too small. A simple pocket book invites them in.
Use the next available page. Add a date when it helps. There is no need to invent sections before you know what you will want to keep.
What goes on the page
A question from a conversation, an unfamiliar word, a rough sketch of a room, or a sentence from a book can sit together. Their connection may only become clear later.
Leave some entries unfinished. A note records attention at a particular moment; it does not have to explain everything you were thinking.
Read back occasionally
Every few weeks, turn through the pages without trying to organise them. Mark anything that still feels useful. The rest can remain where it is. Keeping a record should make room for thought, not become another task to maintain.
